Known as one of Wisconsin’s “Bird Cities”, Green Bay is fortunate to have so many migratory birds pass through every spring and fall.  As I go out to take photos, I come across many birders who are counting all the different species.  It is amazing how far some of these birds travel in a season.

One of our special visitors is the American White Pelican.  This beauty has made a huge comeback to the Green Bay area.  Over a century ago it graced our waterways and for whatever reason disappeared. The numbers increase every year, with young ones being hatched out on islands along the bay.  Like synchronized swimmers, they put on quite the show as they hunt for their fish dinners.  Their orchestrated maneuvers are quite a sight as they make their circular formation and rally up the fish.  As cohesive as they are fishing, the same goes for their ability to fly in sync.  It is like watching a group of jet fighter pilots.  Every of every bird in the group seems to be exact.  They truly are amazing to watch.

Among our year-round feathered friends, is one of my favorites...the turkey. A nuisance to many, but such a delight to watch. These comical giants have really invaded Green Bay!  Almost on a daily basis you will see one (or many) of these goofy birds strutting around town.

With every changing season, and each passing year, you are sure to discover a new bird that perhaps you have never seen.
